Democratic Party to field candidates 2017
he Democratic Party (DP) has announced they fully support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta for a second and final term in the 2017 general election.
However, DP party leader Joseph Munyao says they will be fielding candidates for the positions of Members of County Assembly, Women Representatives, Members of Parliament, Senators and Governors across the 47 counties.
We will definitely field candidates vying for all elective positions other than that of the presidency,” said Munyao on Friday, when he opened a new DP office in Mombasa County.
Accompanied by party chairman, Esau Kioni and Secretary General, Jacob Hajji, Munyao said the party will go out of its way to campaign for President Uhuru in all corners of the country.
Munyao asked the electorate to vote into public office leaders who will improve their lives instead of ‘picking leaders based on party euphoria’.
He contended that DP was the only party which has remained true to its ideals and has its manifesto intact since its inception in 1991.
“We have seen many parties come and go since the end of the one party rule, but we as DP have stood firm and even refused to fold up recently and join Jubilee Party because we have firm policies that we strongly believe in,” he said.
Kioni said they will be popularizing the candidature of President Uhuru as the Jubilee Party flag bearer in the forthcoming crucial polls to ensure he emerges victorious in the forthcoming elections.
