PRESS STATEMENT BY DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF KENYA ON PRESENTATION TO IEBC OF NOMINATION PAPERS OF ITS CANDIDATE FOR THE EMBAKASI SOUTH CONSTITUENCY BY-ELECTION
On Tuesday 5th February 2019 Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) submitted nomination papers of its candidate for the Embakasi South Constituency by-election to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The DP’s candidate, Ramesh Gorasia, is an astute businessman with vast business interests in Embakasi South, chief among them being the recently demolished Taj Mall. Ramesh is also not new to Nairobi politics having contested for the Nairobi Senatorial seat in the recently concluded 2017 general elections and where he emerged third with 43,000 votes, 12,000 of which were from Embakasi South Constituency.
Over and above politics, Ramesh has been supporting various community based initiatives in Embakasi South. He has for example sponsored the planting of over 10,000 trees in the area, rehabilitated a borehole in red roof primary Kwa Njenga, distributed over 20,000 exercise books to primary schools, distributed numerous text books to local schools, and helped start a number of kitchens to support school feeding programs.
Democratic Party of Kenya, which embraces diversity, therefore calls on all Embakasi South voters to overwhelmingly vote for Ramesh. Ramesh espouses DP’s ethos and values of accountability, transparency, fairness, equity, dignity, tolerance and above all, delivering service and fostering economic empowerment to the electorate. This is as envisioned in the spirit of DP Umoja na Haki.
